Douglas Lackey

Douglas Lackey is an American artist based in Naples, Florida, specializing in custom concrete furniture and landscape features for residential and commercial spaces. He founded nvrnmnt—pronounced “environment”—in 2012, following a technology career with Intel and BBN in California and Oregon.

Born and raised in rural Illinois, Douglas studied economics, business administration, and finance. Outside his corporate career, remodeling houses became a creative outlet. While renovating a 1970s home in Southern California, he began making concrete furniture and sculptures, discovering a passion that would eventually become his life’s work.

Inspired by concrete artists Fu-Tung Cheng and Buddy Rhodes, Douglas taught himself through hands-on experimentation with materials and forms. That process led him to develop his own designs, including distinctive textured concrete wall tiles.

His work reflects an interest in contemporary, functional, and minimalist design. As his practice grew, architects, builders, interior designers, and landscape designers began commissioning pieces for homes and commercial settings. His work spans tables, benches, fire pits, planters, and wall tiles, each designed for its setting.

In 2012, Douglas chose Southwest Florida as the home for his studio, seeking a simpler pace of life beyond the corporate world. Naples’ natural surroundings and strong entrepreneurial culture offered an environment in which to develop his artistry.
